Welcome to the world of entrepreneurship. As a new business
owner, undoubtedly you've already heard about the importance of incorporating, preparing contracts you'll need to conduct
business, and the responsibilities of employees. Our Small Business Resource Center includes a list of issues
that you should consider, the types of legal documents and services most used by small businesses, and some helpful tips
and websites.
Legal Issues to Consider
There are many issues to review when starting your business.
Should you incorporate, and if so, what entity is best for your business? Are you providing products or services for
your clients? If so, you will need a standard company contract that includes all the specific terms and conditions of
your business. This contract will help your business form strong, enforceable contracts with clients.
Will your business have employees or independent contractors (and what is the difference between these classifications)? There
are various rules and responsibilities you will have as a business owner with several governmental agencies for each employee
or independent contractor. You will also likely need an agreement to reflect the terms and conditions of the employment
(or independent contractor) relationship.
We know this is a lot to think about, and we are here to help. If
